Ryan Day took some time to speak with FOX’s Joel Klatt prior to Saturday’s spring game for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

First off, he gave his thoughts on the crowd and the fact that FOX is broadcasting the game, a true testament to the Ohio State brand.

“Unbelievable,” Day said, regarding the pomp and circumstance. “You know the support from Buckeye Nation has been great, this whole offseason and again today. We got a beautiful day. Like you said 80,000-plus. You know, the biggest fan base in all of America came out today, and great to be on national TV.”

One of the people who will have a ton of eyes on him is Chip Kelly, the first-year Buckeyes offensive coordinator. Day can’t wait to see what his friend and now fellow Ohio State coach will dial up.

“We’re gonna see how he does,” Day said, regarding Kelly. “You think he’s got something here on the first play? We’ll see what he’s got. He’s a throwback guy. So we may see something a little different on the play, we’ll see.”

In the end, Day recognizes it’s the start of a long season, but he’ll have a close eye on many areas of his team on Saturday, including the quarterback competition between players like Will Howard and Devin Brown.

“Yeah, just an opportunity to enjoy being in The Shoe,” Day said, regarding what his players’ goal is for this afternoon. “You know, some young guys getting some experience. We’ll get some of the older guys in there, gonna run around, moving around, but it’s gonna be a long season next year. So it’s a little bit different than maybe in the past, but we’ll get the guys out there and get them running.

“Get some tackling with the twos and the threes. Get an opportunity to see how the quarterbacks compete.”

Alas, it should be a tremendous afternoon in Columbus, as Ryan Day’s Buckeyes take the field for their spring game.
