The Ohio State Buckeyes cruised to a 49-10 blowout victory on Saturday over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Buckeyes’ safety Tanner McCalister and defensive back Cameron Brown did not play in the game, but the game was well in hand for most of the evening. Following the beatdown, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day updated the injury status of McCalister and Brown.

“Yeah, I don’t really have much of an update on Tanner [McCalister]. We’ll kind of evaluate him later today and tomorrow. Kind of see where he’s at. And then Cam [Brown], we’re trying to get back as soon as we can. Again, we’ll kind of come in tomorrow and see where things are at. And hopefully get a week of practice out of those guys. Again, we’re gonna always make sure we’re following the lead of the doctors on the whole thing. Certainly, feedback from the players is critically important in all of this. So, you know, at the end of the day, I’m kind of out of it. I’ve gotta trust the guys and they do a great job,” Day said in his postgame press conference.

While the Buckeyes cruised on Saturday in blowout fashion, the game had plenty of controversy. The Buckeyes were up 49-10 with less than 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and their punter decided to delve into his bag of tricks. Ohio State punter Jesse Micro pulled the ball and ran when Rutgers gave him a lane. He was absolutely leveled out of bounds in front of his own bench by returner Aron Cruickshank. A scrum ensued as Ohio State and Rutgers players got into it and then Schiano came across the field.

Schiano, clearly heated about the fake kick, and Day, clearly upset about the late hit and Schiano crossing the field, were seen going after each other, yelling and pointing fingers. For more on the late hit, you can check out this article by On3’s Andrew Graham.
