San Diego State transfer guard Micah Parrish has committed to Ohio State out of the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned.

The Detroit native began his career at Oakland University, where he played two seasons with the Grizzlies before spending the last two with the Aztecs. The 6-foot-5 wing has one year of eligibility remaining to play for the Buckeyes.

This past season, Parrish averaged 9.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists for San Diego State. He appeared in 37 games for the Aztecs during the 2023-24 season, starting in 36 of those matchups.

He shot 39.0 percent from the field, and there is some room for improvement when it comes to his averages beyond the arc and at the free throw line, averaging 29.2 percent and 73.7 percent, respectively.

The most impressive season of his career statistically came during his final season at Oakland in 2021-22. For the first time in his career, he averaged double-digit points with 12.1, as well as 6.0 rebounds per game. He also shot career highs from the field (44.0 percent), beyond the arc (35.3 percent) and at the free throw line (80.0 percent).

His junior season, the first with the Aztecs, saw him step into a smaller role for the first time in his career. His statistics were down, but he was able to experience San Diego State’s improbable run to the Final Four — a game which saw him play 16 minutes before ultimately losing to eventual national champion UConn.

Parrish helped take the Aztecs back to the NCAA Tournament this past season as well, but once again ran into UConn — this time in the Sweet 16 where they met a similar fate.

Before his commitment, Parrish received interest from several schools after hitting the portal, such as USC, Michigan, Xavier, Creighton and Clemson. However, new Buckeye head coach Jake Diebler was the one to secure his final commitment.

He now joins former Kentucky center Aaron Bradshaw and former South Carolina point guard Meechie Johnson on Diebler’s squad for next season. Mix in the services of incoming freshman John Mobley, a four-star point guard recruit rated as the top player in the state of New York, and Ohio State is looking fairly well in its efforts to return to the top of the Big Ten’s basketball ranks.
