TreVeyon Henderson was the shining light in a 41-20 victory for the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday. While Tulsa gave Ohio State a run for their money, Henderson helped the Buckeyes avoid disaster.

To illustrate, Henderson carried the ball 24 times, accumulating 277 yards and three touchdowns. While C.J. Stroud dealt with an off-day, Henderson had the Buckeyes climb onto his back.

After the victory, Stroud spoke about how the Ohio State running back put his immense talent on display yesterday.

“We already knew he was special,” Stroud said. “He has a God-given talent, he put it all on display today, showed the whole nation what he can do. He’s just started. It was amazing watching him do what he did today, and I feel like he’ll do even better.”

While Henderson introduced himself to the college football world with a long touchdown catch against Minnesota, yesterday was special. Against Tulsa, he set the Ohio State single game rushing record for a freshman.

“I’m excited right now, but at the same time I gotta keep this going,” stated Henderson. “I can’t just let this be a one-time thing. I gotta stay hungry, go back to practice this week coming up, work hard again and do it again next Saturday.”

Evidently, Henderson has the right attitude of using his performance as motivation. If this is just the beginning, the end result could be scary for the Buckeyes running back.

“Couldn’t be more proud of him.”

Watching Henderson’s ascent first hand, offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere called the running back one of the Buckeyes best players.

“TreVeyon obviously had an amazing day. Couldn’t be more proud of him. He’s probably one of the best players we have here, and he’s worked so hard from the beginning when he got here to now,” said Petit-Frere. “Everything’s kind of going for him, and he’s showing out.”

If Henderson can keep running wild, he’ll make Petit-Frere look great in the process as well. As the Buckeyes offense searches for their identity, both players can help take the pressure off of Stroud as the season moves forward.

More on TreVeyon Henderson

Henderson enrolled at Ohio State in January to get a head start on his college football career. Moreover, Henderson was rated as the top-running back prospect in America, according to the On3 Class of 2021 rankings.

Additionally, On3 also rated Henderson as the 20th best overall prospect in the 2021 recruiting class. He’s listed at 5-foot-10-inches, 215-pounds and attended Hopewell High School (Hopewell, Virginia).

Henderson didn’t play his senior season of high school football due to his school moving their season to the spring of 2021. However, the gifted tailback performed when he was finally named Hopewell’s starting running back as a junior. That season, he responded in a big way — rushing for 2,424 rushing yards and 45 touchdowns.

In his career at Hopewell, TreVeyon Henderson compiled over 4,000 yards rushing with 50 touchdowns and helped Hopewell win its second consecutive state championship in 2019.
