When Urban Meyer recruited Kamryn Babb to Ohio State in 2018, the sky was the limit for the talented receiver. Babb came to the Buckeyes as a four-star prospect and the No. 1 player in the state of Missouri according to On3 Consensus, and had big plans for how his college career would play out.

Unfortunately, it wouldn’t go the way he hoped.

Over the next four years, Babb tore his ACL in both legs twice and also suffered a meniscus injury. The injuries caused him to miss all of the 2018, 2019 and 2021 seasons, as his only action entering 2022 was seven games in 2020. But while many would have called it quits after so many setbacks, Babb continued to push.

That determination paid off in a big way Saturday against Indiana, as Babb entered the game in the fourth quarter and caught his first touchdown as a Buckeye. It was an incredibly emotional moment for both Babb and his teammates, as he fell to his knees after the score before getting up to celebrate with hugs and pats on the back all around.

Although Urban Meyer resigned as Buckeyes’ coach following the 2018 season, he saw the highlight of Kamryn Babb’s touchdown and couldn’t help but feel joy over the story.

“He’s a phenomenal guy,” Meyer said on this week’s episode of Urban’s Take with Tim May. “I was there whenever two of the ACLs happened. I just remember grabbing him and hugging him and sobbing. His mom and dad are incredible people. His faith got actually stronger during this time. His belief is even stronger. His value on the team, it’s hard to even imagine, became stronger.

“When it happened, I saw a highlight and I sent him a text right away. God works in mysterious ways and this guy’s a soldier. He’s a guy that just can impact so many people’s lives and he already has on the team. So it’s a great moment. Good things happen to good people and it did.”

Babb’s unwavering faith has clearly rubbed off on his teammates, who voted him as a captain for this season. Saturday marked was not only the first touchdown of his career, but also his first catch.

Babb graduated in December with a degree in communications, but does have an extra year of eligibility remaining for next season should he want to use it. However, regardless of whether he returns next year, he got his moment Saturday, and his story is an inspiration to anyone who may feel discouraged due to things out of their control to keep pushing.
