Ohio State freshman phenom TreVeyon Henderson was one of the highest rated running backs in the country coming out of high school. Thursday night against Minnesota, he showed why with his world-class speed in the open field.

Freshman phenom

Henderson enrolled at Ohio State in January to get a head start on his college football career. Henderson was rated as the top-running back prospect in America, according to the On3 Class of 2021 rankings.

On3 also rated Henderson as the 20th best overall prospect in the 2021 recruiting class. He’s listed at 5-foot-10-inches, 215-pounds and attended Hopewell High School (Hopewell, Virginia).

He didn’t play his senior season of high school football due to his school moving their season to the spring of 2021.

The gifted tailback was finally named Hopewell’s starting running back as a junior and he responded in a big way–by rushing for 2,424 rushing yards and 45 touchdowns.

In his career at Hopewell, TreVeyon Henderson compiled over 4,000 yards rushing with 50 touchdowns and helped Hopewell win its second consecutive state championship in 2019.

Part of a loaded Ohio State recruiting class

Henderson was not the only big-time commitment the Buckeyes reeled in the 2021 recruiting cycle. The Buckeyes don’t rebuild, they reload. They also landed the 19th best overall prospect in On3’s class of 2021 rankings, quarterback Kyle McCord out of St. Joseph’s (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania). McCord played at St. Joseph’s with another Buckeyes commitment in the 2021 class, wide receiver Marvin Harrison, Jr.

Marvin Harrison, Jr. was of the most highly sought-after prospects in America coming out of high school. Rated as the 28th ranked prospect in America in the 2021 class, according to On3.com. The standout peppered his name all over the record books at St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Harrison, Jr. finished his career at St. Joseph’s with 2,625 receiving yards and 37 touchdowns–both of which are Philadelphia Catholic League records. The former four-star prospect teamed up with fellow OSU signee Kyle McCord to lead St. Joseph’s to three straight Pennsylvania 6A state championships. He had eight catches for 156 yards and two touchdowns in a state title win over Central York. The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder had 18 scholarship offers and selected the Buckeyes over Arkansas, Baylor, Florida, Georgia Tech, and others.

Those are just a few of the recruits from the 2021 On300 rankings they landed. The Buckeyes landed 12 recruits total that are ranked inside the top 100 for the 2021 recruiting class in On3’s rankings, quite an impressive haul.
