Two premier Oklahoma State athletes were in a serious car accident Monday night. As it turns out, a Cowboys football assistant was there and rushed in to save them.

AJ Ferrari, an NCAA individual champion last year as a freshman, and All-American cross country runner Isai Rodriguez collided head-on with another vehicle while passing several others, according to the Oklahoma State athletic department.

Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Kasey Dunn was at the scene and pulled Ferrari out of the car, which was reportedly on fire. Rodriguez got out through the broken windshield.

Ferrari and Rodriguez taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Oklahoma State athletics. Ferrari’s dad posted on Facebook that he had fluid in his lungs and internal bleeding, but he’s expected to be alright.

“If you saw the car and AJ, you would know this was a miracle,” Ferrari’s dad wrote. “Thank you to the Medics and police for their care. … I sincerely thank everyone who prayed for AJ and reached out. Please continue to pray for Isai and AJ’s oxygen levels to get back to normal, the removal of the fluid on his lung and the internal bleeding to stop. GodisGreat!”

Dunn has been with the Oklahoma State football program since 2011, starting as wide receivers coach before moving up to associate head coach in 2019 and offensive coordinator in 2020.
