Oregon head coach Dan Lanning updated the status of veteran offensive lineman Ryan Walk on Monday ahead of a Week 2 game versus Eastern Washington.

“Ryan got dinged, his knee got a little bit banged up, that being said, I think he’ll be good to go,” Lanning said. “He’s still getting some treatment.”

Ryan Walk, a member of the 2017 signing class, opted to return to Oregon for another year despite interest from NFL scouts. Last season, the 6-foot-3, 290-pound lineman played 577 snaps for the Ducks. He’s a Eugene, Oregon native and a key member of the Ducks offensive line at left guard.

Lanning and his squad took a beating in the season opener versus the defending national champions. The game versus Eastern Washington gives the team an opportunity to bounce back before playing another top-25 opponent in BYU.

Lanning announces defensive lineman ‘out’ for year

Dan Lanning delivered some more substantial injury news on Monday.

Popo Aumavae, a senior defensive tackle who was a first-team All-Pac-12 selection last season, will miss the remainder of the year with a foot injury, Lanning said.

Aumavae was going to be crucial to Oregon’s defensive success this season, coming back for a sixth season in college football. Lanning called it a “big loss” for the program as the nose tackle will be getting surgery on his foot.

“Unfortunately, it looks like he’s gonna be – I hate it for him – had a foot injury. It looks like he’s gonna be out for the season,” Lanning said during his Monday night press conference. “That’s a big loss for us. He’s gonna be getting surgery. Hate to lose him because he’s worked so hard to get back from injury.”

The injury occurred in the days leading up to the game, according to Lanning. Aumavae’s absence on Saturday made waves, as he was the only starter on either side of the ball who was not suited up.

Last season, Aumavae racked up 16 tackles and 3.0 tackles for loss for the Ducks. He was consistently one of the best run-stoppers in the league. Pro Football Focus issued him an overall grade of 81.3 last season. It was the second best among all Pac-12 interior defensive linemen.

In Aumavae’s absence, senior Jordon Riley got the start against Georgia in the season-opener.
