Oregon fell to Arizona in disappointing fashion over the weekend, but all Dana Altman was concerned about following the loss was the health of Keeshawn Barthelemy.

The Ducks guard appeared to injure his leg just minutes into the second half, and it sucked the wind out of Oregon’s sails at the time. Barthelemy has been a key player for Oregon this year, averaging 8.0 points and 2.4 assists per game entering Saturday’s matchup against Arizona.

He put together a solid showing last time out against Arizona State, totaling 12 points and three rebounds as the Ducks defeated the Sun Devils 80-61.

Afterwards, Altman provided an injury update on Barthelemy, explaining that he recognizes the eye test wasn’t one that the Ducks guard passed.

“He’s at the hospital, getting tests right now, so we’ll know for sure, but didn’t look good,” Altman stated.

Additionally, Altman added some contest that he didn’t know if he was able to reveal the full extent of his knowledge, but he still believed it was an ugly situation, “I don’t know if I can say, for individual health reasons or the laws or whatever. Just, it wasn’t good. That’s all I can say,” he said.

Oregon brought a 14-5 record into Saturday’s game, including a 6-2 mark in Pac-12 play. The Ducks held a one-game advantage over Arizona, which had an identical 14-5 overall record but was 5-3 in conference action coming in.

Even though the Ducks lost, Altman’s focus was on his player, and hoping Barthelemy would be able alright.

“Basketball’s a great game, a fun game. It’s the one bad thing, knee injury or wrist injury, foot. Whatever. It takes away from the fun,” Altman stated, putting everything in perspective. “These guys come here to have fun, compete, play. Injuries are the one thing that really takes away from the fun.

“Seeing him like that, he had the plantar fasciitis last year that he tore, and he missed a bunch of the season. You know, so I’ve got bad ankles. So when I see bad ankles, it makes my stomach cringe. But he really was playing good. He really got a flow going there. Just really sad to see it.”

Time will tell if we see Keeshawn Barthelemy on the court again over the remainder of Oregon’s campaign, but it’s a shame he was hurt against Arizona. The Ducks star had been playing some awesome basketball, and figured to be a big piece of their March Madness hopes in 2024.
