At one point, Arizona was the leader for San Jacinto (Calif.) four-star wide receiver Dillon Gresham. Then, a visit to Oregon on April 7 quickly vaulted the Ducks to the top.

Gresham felt like a priority to head coach Dan Lanning and his staff and enjoyed Oregon’s environment, as well as being around the players in Eugene. The 6-foot-0, 175-pound wideout would eventually feel that committing to the Ducks “seemed like the right thing to do.”

He did that on Saturday, choosing Oregon over Arizona and Washington.

“Everybody knows Oregon,” Gresham told On3. “It’s the place to be. I’ve seen what Oregon is trying to build. The players they’re bringing in, it can’t be a fluke. It seems like they’re ready to go after a national championship. I want to be a part of it.”

Gresham will be returning to Oregon in the coming weeks. He is in the process of setting up an official visit in June.

The California native is the Ducks’ third pledge in the last three days, alongside Bowie (Md.) St. Frances Academy four-star quarterback Michael Van Buren and Durant (Okla.) four-star defensive lineman Xadavien Sims. In addition to Oregon’s success under Lanning, what the program offers off the field impresses Gresham.

“Their brand,” Gresham said about a main reason why he chose the Ducks. “You can use Oregon to infinity as far as marketing. That’s where it was different between Arizona and Washington. Oregon can be used for, I’d say, a lot more.”

Gresham believes in Oregon’s coaches

Gresham first met Lanning during a camp. He immediately noticed that Oregon’s head man is down-to-earth.

The four-star grew to appreciate Lanning’s honesty and genuine nature. Having a head coach heavily involved in his recruitment profoundly helped the Ducks.

“He knows how to separate business from family,” said Gresham, the No. 213 overall prospect and No. 37 wide receiver in the 2024 On300. “He doesn’t really show tough love, but he has that vibe to him. He truly cares about the players, their situations. He’s very understanding. He’s a very cool person to be around.”

Lanning is not the only Oregon staffer that Gresham grew close with. He also found a “mentor” in wide receivers coach Junior Adams.

Gresham likes how Adams is laid-back. He is also impressed by how well he develops players at his position.

“He really seems like he knows what he’s doing, as far as recruiting receivers, as far as making receivers better,” Gresham said. “I really think he could develop me to the point where I could get to the NFL.”
