Four-star cornerback Ify Obidegwu of Baltimore (MD) St. Frances Academy announced his commitment to Oregon Sunday afternoon.

The 6-foot-2, 190 pounder chose the Ducks over Tennessee, Ohio State, and Maryland.

Obidegwu on why he chose Oregon

“Ultimately what stood out to me is that Oregon is a school where I can achieve my dreams on and off the field. Coach Meat and coach Tosh have built a good defense in Oregon and I know that I can do very great things at Oregon. Also, coach Lanning and the rest of the staff has treated me and my family with much love and it is unlike no other. Coach Meat and I have built a great relationship and I have trust in that man 100% that he will get me where I want to be and that is the NFL. Oregon has also been a dream school of mine growing up and it is so surreal that this is all happening.”

Relationship with coaching staff + Oregon’s plan for him

“Coach Meat is the DB coach and I have a great relationship with him. He reminds me of my DB coach now in high school. Just a real genuine guy who cares about you as much as a person and a player. Coach Tosh is a great guy as well. Me and my family love him and how he coaches with a lot of energy and excitement. Coach Lanning is also a great man. He definitely has a national championship in his future and I will be there to help him win it for sure.”

The Maryland cornerback joins coach Dan Lanning and the Ducks’ top 12 class in the 2024 team rankings. He is accompanied by four-star wide receiver Jordan Anderson, four-star safety Aaron Flowers, and others.

Obidegwu ranks as the No. 92 player in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also tabs in as the No. 13 cornerback and the No. 1 player in the state of Maryland.

He currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $109K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
