San Diego (Calif.) Lincoln cornerback Jahlil Florence took a look around, but ultimately landed back where he started: Oregon.

The four-star defensive back committed to the Ducks on Monday afternoon, choosing Oregon over USC and a handful of other schools, including Oklahoma, Florida and Miami.

He is the No. 110 prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Florence ranks as the No. 14 cornerback nationally and the No. 8 prospect in California.

On3’s own rankings are higher on him, though, listing him as the No. 53 overall prospect, No. 9 cornerback and No. 4 player in California.

Jahlil Florence had strong connections to Oregon

Florence committed to the Ducks under previous head coach Mario Cristobal, but opted to re-open his recruitment when Cristobal left for Miami. USC’s new coaching staff jumped in with an offer and got him on campus right before the Early Signing Period. The longer he waited, the more teams got involved. But it always came back to the Ducks and their new coaching staff under Dan Lanning.

He announced earlier this month that he was down to five schools: Miami, Oklahoma, USC, Oregon and Florida. He was scheduled to visit the Hurricanes the weekend of January 14th, but ultimately announced he wouldn’t take any more visits two days before he was scheduled to leave. A week after, he announced he was down to two schools: USC and Oregon.

The Ducks continued to push for him, and that effort, along with everything else that drew him to the school the first time, made the difference.

Florence is Oregon’s 12th pledge in the 2022 class, joining a group headlined by his high school teammate and fellow four-star corner Jalil Tucker. Adding him back into the mix was big for Lanning and Co. after the Ducks lost more than a dozen commits following Cristobal’s departure.
