Four-star safety Kodi Decambra of Las Vegas (NV) Bishop Gorman High announced his commitment to Oregon Monday afternoon.

The 6-foot, 185 pounder chose the Ducks over Washington, Arizona, Oregon State, Colorado, and Hawaii.

Decambra on why he chose Oregon

“With coach Lanning coming from the SEC, along with coach Powledge from Baylor (who had 2-3 safeties in the top 7 safeties with interceptions) and that’s only the surface of the staff,” Decambra said. “Coach Lupoi coming from the NFL as well and having a background from Bama. I know for sure I’m going to be in great hands. But besides the football aspect, they’re so family oriented and based that I feel very secure by putting my future into their hands. I know that they will take care of me these 3-4 years I’m there, and after that as well.

“Back to football wise, the way they play is very similar to how we are at Gorman and I believe I am able to use every skill I have,” Decambra said. “That falls into being able to play physical and aggressive, along with playing with speed by covering sideline to sideline and being a ball hawk. Oregon just really felt like my home away from home.”

Relationship with coaching staff and Oregon’s plan for Decambra

My relationship with the coaches has grown rapidly and I’ve been really close with them,” Decambra said. “They plan to use me as an all around safety by playing in the box and being able to play sideline to sideline.”

Kodi Decambra joins coach Dan Lanning and the Ducks’ No. 12 class in the On3 Consensus 2023 team rankings, alongside Jurrion Dickey, Cole Martin, Ashton Cozart, and others.

Decambra Scouting Summary

“Highly athletic safety who plays for one of the nation’s top high school programs,” On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Powers stated. “A standout in the combine setting, running a 4.54 second electronically-timed 40-yard dash and posting an outstanding 41.9 inch vertical at 5-foot-11, 178 pounds. Plays as a deep safety for Bishop Gorman. Has the speed to run with receivers on vertical routes. Shows the ability to high-point the football in contested situations.”

“Totaled 28 tackles and 2 interceptions as a senior. Also brings value on kick block and kick cover units on special teams. Significantly older than most other prospects in the 2023 cycle, turning 19 years-old in the middle of his junior year.”

He ranks as the No. 248 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally-weighted industry generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting services. The 2023 prospect also tabs in at the No. 22 safety and the No. 3 player in the state of Nevada.
