Dan Lanning might be helping the Georgia Bulldogs as they prepare for their chance at a college football national championship, but that has not stopped him from continuing to develop his coaching staff at Oregon. Oregon announced on Monday that he has hired Junior Adams to become the Ducks’ new Co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach.

“Junior Adams is a great addition to this coaching staff,” Lanning said. “He has tremendous experience on the West Coast both as a player and a coach, as well as knowledge and familiarity working in the Pac-12 Conference. Coach Adams is a terrific teacher and mentor of young men, and I am excited for our student-athletes to get the opportunity to learn from him.”

Adams has spent his last three seasons with a PAC-12 rival, the Washington Huskies, as their wide receivers coach. Before jumping to the PAC-12, he spent two seasons as Western Kentucky offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach.

“He has a track record of developing NFL talent at the wide receiver position, and I am looking forward to seeing him develop some more playmakers here at Oregon. His experience as a play-caller will be extremely beneficial to our staff as we work to install our offensive system here at Oregon. I am thrilled to welcome Junior and his family to Eugene.”

Oregon makes another hire

Another hire to Dan Lanning’s Oregon coaching staff has been made official.

On Monday, the university announced the hire of Joe Lorig as the Ducks’ special teams and nickles coach.

It was reported last week that Lanning was targeting Lorig, who served as Penn State’s special team’s coordinator last season.

An Edmonds, Wash., native, Lorig began his coaching career in the state of Oregon. He played cornerback at Western Oregon University in nearby Monmouth from 1994-95, and started coaching there soon after his playing career ended.

Lorig coached the Wolves’ defensive backs for two years before becoming a position coach at Idaho State, where he eventually served as the school’s defensive coordinator from 2003-2006.

He has since served in a wide array of roles and spent time at UTEP, Central Washington University, Arizona State, and Utah State.

From 2016-18, Lorig served as special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach at Memphis and his tenure there overlapped with Lanning’s.
