Atco (N.J.) Winslow Township four-star wide receiver Ejani Shakir announced his decommitment from Penn State on Sunday night. He was previously committed to the Nittany Lions since May 11.

Shakir is the No. 332 overall prospect and No. 48 wide receiver in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 6 player in New Jersey.

On3 rates Shakir higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Even though he is not ranked in the 2023 On300, Shakir is the No. 4 player in New Jersey.

“First, I would like to thank Penn State, Coach Franklin, Coach Stubbs, and staff for taking their time to recruit and host me and my family to an amazing university,” Shakir wrote in a statement published to social media. “I want to thank the Penn State fans for all the love and support throughout my recruitment process. With that being said, I will be decommitting from Penn State University.”

The 6-foot-0, 175-pound wideout currently has 18 offers. Some of the schools who have extended them include Miami, Ole Miss and South Carolina.

Following Shakir’s decision, the Nittany Lions have one wide receiver commit in their 2023 recruiting class. That prospect, Roanoke (Va.) Patrick Henry four-star Carmelo Taylor, chose Penn State on Aug. 10.

Penn State’s 2023 class currently ranks No. 13 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 2 in the Big Ten. The group is led by Ashburn (Va.) Broad Run four-star interior offensive lineman Alex Birchmeier, the No. 45 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus.

Shakir has an On3 NIL Valuation of $26K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
