Jameel Brown shot 34.6 percent from the field and 31.9 percent from 3-point range in 2023-24. The Philadelphia native was named first-team all-state and a finalist for Pennsylvania Mr. Basketball as a senior in high school.

As a freshman at Penn State in 2022-23, Brown appeared in 14 games, finishing with 12 points and 14 rebounds across 64 minutes.

Penn State had an up-and-down season in Year 1 under Mike Rhoades. The Nittany Lions got better and better as the year went along, including beating Illinois late in the season.

Penn State finished with a 16-17 (9-11) record. Its season came to an end with a loss to Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament on March 14.

More on Penn State and the transfer portal

It has already been a busy offseason for Penn State in regards to the transfer portal. In addition to Jameel Brown, guard Kanye Clary, center Favour Aire and forward Demetrius Lilley have also already entered the portal since the season ended earlier this month.

Clary led the Nittany Lions in scoring this past season, before being dismissed from the team. He then entered the portal once the Penn State season was over. He averaged 16.7 points per game and 2.9 rebounds per game over 23 games this season.

Favour Aire just finished his only season with the Nittany Lions as a sophomore this year. It came after he spent his freshman year with Miami last season.

Aire has appeared in 26 total games between the two schools with 14 in Coral Gables and 12 in University Park. In under four minutes a game in his two-year collegiate career, he is averaging 0.6 points and 0.8 rebounds.

Lilley played just two years at Penn State and participated in 25 total games, including 20 this season where he averaged 2.8 points and 2.7 rebounds in just over nine minutes of action per outing. Those numbers may not raise anyone’e eye brows, but Lilley actually put some decent work in given his limited playing time.

For instance, he was terrifically efficient making 70% of his field goal attempts, much higher than his 57% mark from the free throw line. Then, his per-40 minutes numbers come out to more than 12 points and 11 rebounds per game. So there could be some untapped potential with the rising junior.
