Wednesday’s win over Indiana was a memorable night for the Penn State team.

The Nittany Lions dominated the reeling Hoosiers in Happy Valley in route to an 85-66 victory while senior guard Seth Lundy was able to become the 39th player in school history to score 1,000 points.

“For him to get 1,000 points, man that’s special,” head coach Micah Shrewsberry said. “He’s earned it. It takes some continuity, right? You got to do some stuff early as a freshman. You got to do some stuff each year and be pretty consistent unless you’re just gonna blow it up one of those years. One year I think Jimmer (Fredette) got 1000 in a season but it’s pretty rare. But him getting to 1000 is an accomplishment.”

Lundy got his 1,000th late in the second half on a dunk. The game was arguably his best of the season as he finished with a season-high 25 points and a career-best seven made 3-pointers.

He is up to 14.4 points per game on career-best field goal and 3-point percentages through 16 games this year.

“I thought he just took what the defense gave him and he competes so hard and he wants to win and sometimes it’ll get the best of him offensively,” Shrewsberry said. “Just goes overboard a little bit too much. Tonight, he stayed in rhythm. He took what the defense gave him. Whether it’s a shot, whether it was a straight line drive to attack the rim, a drive to a pass, he kept it really simple. When he does that, he’s really good.”

Seth Lundy now one of five Penn State players with 1,000 points

Seth Lundy is the fifth current player to have scored 1,000 points in his college career along with Myles Dread, Bucknell transfer Andrew Funk, Jalen Pickett and Drexel transfer Camren Wynter.

Pickett also played his first three college seasons at Siena. Only two other schools in the country have five other 1,000-point scorers: San Diego and UAB.

“Now Seth, Miles, Cam, Pickett, Funk, we have five guys on our team that have scored over 1000 points and that’s a big accomplishment for a team,” Shrewsberry said. “There’s probably not many. We’re over now. We’ve been playing some college basketball, we got some years behind this. But I also played college basketball too. College in high school combined, I’m still looking for my 1,000.”
