Four-star cornerback Jon Mitchell of Jacksonville (FL) Mandarin High announced his commitment to Penn State Saturday morning.

The 6-foot, 175 pounder chose the Nittany Lions over Notre Dame, Miami, Alabama, and Florida State.

Mitchell on why he chose Penn State

“It really feels like home to me,” Mitchell said. “The way coach Terry Smith develops his cornerbacks to be elite stands out. Also, I just fell in love with the facility and all the coaches are just genuine. It’s a family I want to be a part of.”

Relationship with Terry Smith stood out

“I’m close with the cornerbacks coach, coach Terry Smith,” Mitchell said. “He is just a great guy in general, and will talk football. But then he will communicate with you and have talks about life, and he’s one of the best CB coaches in college football.”

The Sunshine State cornerback joins coach James Franklin and the Nittany Lions’ Top 20 class in the 2024 team rankings. He is accompanied by Cooper Cousins, Kari Jackson, and others.

He ranks as the No. 145 player in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also tabs in as the No. 15 cornerback and the No. 21 player in the state of Florida.

Jon Mitchell currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $88K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
