A pair of trips to West Lafayette was all Cincinnati (Ohio) La Salle four-star cornerback Koy Beasley needed to know where his future home would be.

Beasley announced his commitment to the Boilermakers after months of relationship-building with the staff in West Lafayette.

“When I first visited Purdue I really liked it,” Beasley told On3. “So they’ve been up there for a while. The official visit really put them over the edge.

“I feel like the staff, the coaching, my relationship with the coaches made Purdue the best fit. I feel like they’re really building something special at Purdue. I just want to be a part of that.”

Purdue rounded out Beasley’s June full of official visits. Prior to the trip to West Lafayette, he visited Pittsburgh and Wisconsin.

While each of those schools had aspects he liked, Purdue checked every box and he feels satisfied with his final decision.

“It was fun, it was stressful. It was a little bit of both,” Beasley said about the recruiting process. “It was a long process, I had a lot of schools. I’m really glad to get over it and really find a place that was for me. The best fit for me, I believe.”

Ryan Walters made a lasting impression on Beasley

Beasley’s impressions of Walters’ resume extended to the rest of the coaching staff. He noted that not only do they have the on-the-field history to back them up, but also, genuinely care for their players. Something that Beasley said helps the Purdue staff stick out among its peers.

Beasley specifically mentioned his relationships with new Purdue head coach Ryan Walters, safeties coach Grant O’Brien and corners coach Sam Carter as reasons why he chose the Boilermakers.

After his final conversation with Walters during a visit was when Beasley knew he wanted to go to Purdue.

“It was about both football and life,” Beasley said of that conversation. “That’s what really sets him apart, coaches really don’t talk to you about life. But he talked about how he can help us in life and how they can use me on the field.”

Beasley had more to say about Walters, who is in his first season at Purdue after putting together one of the nation’s best defenses at Illinois. That resume was a sticking point for Beasley. A resume that saw an Illinois defensive back go fifth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.

“Coach Walters, I feel like he can really build Purdue and lead them to championships,” Beasley said. “He’s a defensive-minded coach, he helps develop guys. He cares about you and he wants to win, so I really like that.”
