A little less than three months after backing off his pledge to Rutgers, Union City (N.J.) offensive lineman JaSire Peterson has re-committed to the Scarlet Knights, he announced on Thursday.

Peterson is the No. 444 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 35 interior offensive lineman and No. 8 prospect in the Garden State.

After decommitting from Rutgers in mid-January, Peterson fielded offers from Illinois, West Virginia, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Nebraska and Boston College, among others. But the Scarlet Knights never stopped pursuing him, and will bring him back into the fold as a defensive lineman.

Peterson played both sides of the line of scrimmage for Union City during his sophomore and junior seasons. He made 16 tackles and had two sacks in seven games in the fall.

He is Rutgers’ fourth commitment in the 2023 cycle, joining three-star offensive lineman John Stone, wide receiver Yazeed Haynes and Florida athlete Christopher Johnson. With JaSire Peterson in the fold, the Scarlet Knights’ class jumps to No. 18 in the early On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings.
