Kevin Patton Jr., one of the final remaining 2023 prospects in the top-150 rankings, is now off the board. The 6-foot-6 wing out of Temecula (Calif.) Rancho Christian has committed to San Diego and head coach Steve Lavin. He becomes the highest-ranked recruit to commit to USD in the modern recruiting era.

The three-star senior chose the Toreros over offers from Arizona State, Washington State, Santa Clara, Rice, and others.

According to the On3 Consensus, Patton ranks as the No. 127 overall prospect in the country. The On3 Consensus is the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies (ESPN, 247Sports, Rivals, On3).

Patton on his commitment to San Diego

“I chose San Diego because I feel like this is where I can grow and develop my game the best,” Patton said to On3. “The coaching staff recruited me hard and have been high on me. Coach (Steve) Lavin is bringing a winning culture and knows what it takes.”

What type of player is San Diego getting in Kevin Patton Jr., in his own words?

“I would describe my game as very athletic, skilled and versatile. I can score efficiently at all the levels, handle and pass the ball and defend different positions effectively.”

Patton has a message for USD fans.

“To USD fans: you’re getting the best-kept secret in 2023! I’m here because I want to be.”
