Rick Pitino struck gold on Tuesday when he landed his second high school commitment of the 2024 class. Elizabeth (NJ) The Patrick School wing Jaiden Glover, On3’s No. 43 player in the 2024 rankings, joins three-star wing Lefteris Liotopoulos

St. John’s is coming off a big off-season that saw them hire Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino, who then brought in an almost entirely new roster of players.

Let’s go through what St. John’s is getting in their latest commitment.

Who is Jaiden Glover?

Jaiden Glover is a 6-foot-5, 190-pound wing and On3’s No. 15 ranked small forward in the 2024 On3 150. Glover chose the Red Storm over a final group that also included Creighton, St. Joseph’s, and Seton Hall.

The On3 four-star plays his high school ball at Elizabeth (NJ) The Patrick School. This summer, he played on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit and averaged 16.9 points while shooting 39.6 percent from three.

“I’m an all-around type player, a swiss-army-knife,” Glover told On3. “I can really shoot it, I play defense, guard the ball. I’ve been lifting a lot, really getting stronger, and I can see that in my game. I watch a lot of Devin Booker with his creativity in the mid-range and around the basket.”

What does he bring to St. John’s

Jaiden Glover will bring a reputation as a shooter to St. John’s. At 6-foot-5, he has good length and is a good athlete, a lot of burst in transition and in straight lines. While he could use it to quicken up his release some, the release point is consistent, and he shoots it with good balance. Glover plays efficiently in the half-court, not rushed and taking what the defense gives him.

The wing has an explosive burst in the open floor, and in transition, he attacks the rim with a purpose. Glover is capable of getting above the rim in traffic, and his frame allows him to absorb contact and finish.

You want to see him continue to develop the handle and continue to add counters off the bounce. He can attack a closeout, but right now, a lot of his offense is predicated around this shooting. Defensively, you like the upside. He has good length and a strong frame. Glover plays on that end with a good motor, showing instincts in the passing lanes. He has the upside to be a factor on that end of the floor, especially playing for a coach who emphasizes that side of the ball.

How does Glover fit in the lineup?

Rick Pitino did a complete overhaul of the St. John’s roster this offseason, only returning two scholarship players from last year’s team. On that side of things, only two of the newcomers are freshmen this year, while six of the players on the team are seniors.

Glover has the frame and skill set to fit multiple roles, playing both wing spots on either end of the floor. While the roster has a good number of guards, Pitino likes to play with multiple guards and wings throughout the lineup.

With this commitment, Pitino kept one of the area’s best players home.

Glover on St. John’s

“I mean, it’s my hometown. Rick Pitino is a huge part of me. They’ve been one of my biggest recruiters since I was in the eighth grade at Iona and just picked it up when he went to St. John’s. They love how I shoot and my athleticism. They think I fit in with the type of two-way player they’re trying to bring in.

“That was a good visit. They were the first to offer since I was a freshman, and I liked how they had me watch their practice and the tempo they played at.

“It’s my hometown, New York and New Jersey is where I grew up, and I really like their new head coach and his history of NBA players.”
