Colorado received a taste of its own medicine on Saturday. After Stanford pulled off a 29-point comeback to defeat the Buffaloes 46-43 in double-overtime, wide receiver Elic Ayomanor mocked Shedeur Sanders’ infamous watch celebration.

Ayomanor had room to talk. The sophomore wide receiver exploded for 13 receptions, 294 yards and three touchdowns in the miraculous win. While Ayomanor had no shortage of highlights, perhaps his brightest moment came when the Cardinal needed it most.

The 6-foot-2 wideout pinned a ball to Colorado star Travis Hunter’s helmet to match the Buffaloes’ touchdown in overtime. The incredible catch ultimately boosted Stanford to the largest comeback in program history.

After the win, Ayomanor praised his team’s endless resiliency.

“We went to the locker room at halftime, and Spencer [Jorgensen] and Coach gave us a great speech,” Ayomanor said. “They said, ‘We put a lot of hard work into this and we have all our opportunities, we just need to bring it to fruition. And we just kept fighting. We just kept that that dog mentality. We just kept going and keeping the gas pedal down and just never gave up. And that’s, that’s how it came out. We came out on top of the end of the day.

“It’s been a season of ups and downs, everybody knows but I just had to lock in and I had to really think about where I want to be in the future,” Ayomanor said. “I just used that as motivation to just put my best effort out there.

The win is only Stanford’s second this season. The team also won its season opener over Hawaii but entered the Saturday night matchup on a four-game losing streak. Ayomanor hadn’t done much to prevent this downward spiral.

Before the team’s win over Colorado, Ayomanor had yet to record more than four receptions in a single contest. On Saturday, he tripled that number. Despite his monstrous effort, Ayomanor gave credit to his teammates.

“It’s a whole team effort,” Ayomanor said. “The O-line needs to make time for the quarterback to throw it. The quarterback needs to throw a great ball, which he was doing. I need to catch it and score and everybody came together as a whole. It wasn’t just an effort by myself.

“Coach always says if everybody does their job over and over again, you don’t need a spark. You just will keep going and you’ll slowly chip away that lead and come back and that’s what we did.”
