TCU star Mike Miles had a dominant first half for the Horned Frogs in their first-round matchup in the NCAA Tournament against the Arizona State Sun Devils on Friday night, pouring in 16 points. The problem was the Horned Frogs still trailed the Sun Devils, 44-37 at halftime.

Not only that, Miles was also injured after delivering one of the best breakaway dunks of this year’s tournament thus far. He eventually returned to the game for the final few seconds of the first half, but that was only after he was worked on by the TCU trainers for a number of minutes, in the tunnel and on the Horned Frogs’ bench. He was clearly hobbled as he walked into the locker room at halftime.

Coming back from the break at the beginning of the second half, college basketball insider Andy Katz gave an injury update on the TCU superstar.

“Yeah, Jamie Dixon told me he was fine. The athletic trainer from TCU also said he just re-aggravated that right knee on the dunk,” Katz said. He was back on the floor for the Horned Frogs to start the second half of Friday night’s matchup. He managed to score some points and even have a spectacular block at the rim, so clearly his right knee is fine. The man has been trying to will his team to a victory on Friday night and play through the injury.

Miles has been one of the best players in college basketball this year, stuffing the stat sheet with 17.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. Clearly, it’ll be a massive loss if he can’t play for the Horned Frogs on the biggest stage of the season. He’s been battling injuries for much of the season and suffered a right knee injury against Mississippi State on Jan. 28.

During the 2021-2022 season, Miles started in all 31 games for the Horned Frogs, ranking fifth in the Big 12 in scoring with 15.2 points per game. He also earned second team All-Big 12 honors.

Andy Katz also gave an update on what TCU head coach Jamie Dixon told his team at halftime. “As for what he told the team, well they’ve gotta guard better. They were shooting too many threes and we saw they have to be much more contested. Something I have never seen before coming to the NCAA Tournament, Jamie Dixon came out with eight minutes left. Had his players shooting because they wanted to get more shots up. They were barely in at halftime.”

The winner of Friday night’s matchup advances to the Round of 32.
