The TCU Horned Frogs’ football family lost one of their own on Wednesday, as former player Brian Brazil passed away at the age of 58 years old due to cancer. He’d been the head coach at Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas from 1999 until he retired in 2022. Prestonwood Christian Academy System of Schools, where Brazil spent the 2022-2023 school year as the private school’s senior athletic director, confirmed Brazil’s passing. He died after a yearlong battle with cancer, according to multiple reports. On Thursday evening, the TCU football Twitter page sent out condolences to Brazil’s family, Horned Frog teammates, and friends.

Check that out below.

“Our condolences to Brian Brazil’s family, TCU teammates, and friends. As a cherished member of the TCU Football Family, his legacy as a player and coach in Texas football will be forever cherished. Rest in Peace, #73.”

During his time as the head football coach at Hebron, he won a Class 4A Division II state championship in 2005. Hebron defeated Corpus Christi Calallen 28-0. Brazil finished with a 152-97 overall record during his time as their head football coach. He also helped guide their football program to 16 playoff appearances and a run of five consecutive district championships from 2004 to 2008. His teams had an overall record of 47-7 from 2004 to 2007.

Brazil was inducted into the Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor last year. The ceremony was on July 16th at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas. He was inducted alongside such legends as Dennis Alexander, Todd Dodge, Andy Griffin, and Tom Kimbrough.

According to the Hebron Hawkeye, a Hebron High School blog, Hebron High School’s football stadium, Hawk Stadium, is set to be renamed Brian Brazil Stadium. He will be honored during the opening game of the 2023 season, the first with the stadium’s new name.

Many high school football coaches across the state of Texas remembered Brazil fondly this week. Kenny Perry, an associate head coach for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, tweeted his condolences.

During his playing days with the TCU Horned Frogs, he played three seasons as an offensive lineman, where he won all-conference honors in 1987.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday morning at Prestonwood Baptist Church. Brazil’s family said they would appreciate if attendees wore colors related to the school where they met the former TCU offensive lineman.
