Amarillo (Texas) Tascosa defensive lineman Avion Carter has committed to TCU on his official visit this weekend, he announced Sunday morning.

Carter is the No. 177 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 23 defensive lineman and the No. 30 junior player in the state of Texas.

He chose the Horned Frogs over finalists Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas Tech.

Last month, the 6-foot-3, 252-pounder narrowed down to that quartet from more than a dozen offers that also included Notre Dame, USC, Texas A&M and Oklahoma.

As a junior, Avion Carter totaled 55 tackles with 15 tackles for loss and 8 sacks. He was named District 2-5A-I Defensive Player of the Year in 2021.
