Johnny Manziel had high interest in TCU when he was a college football recruit. But it wasn’t just for football.

Manziel admitted the campus lifestyle, partying and girls were a big part of his visit to see the Horned Frogs. The football program was in good shape too, so there was a lot to love, kind of like the show Blue Mountain State.

Manziel pretty much said that when talking to Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay.

“Frogs, TCU, loved them,” Manziel said. “Took a visit there, had a buddy from high school that was going to school there and I went there. I was like damn, there’s a lot of girls up here.”

“They party too Johnny,” Sharpe replied. “TCU, almost every year, No. 1 party school.”

“Go Frogs. It was crazy and when I was in high school I was like this place is heaven on earth,” Manziel said. “It’s nice, it’s clean, the girls, the football program.”

Manziel started his college career in 2011 with Texas A&M as a redshirt, but he sure picked a good time to visit TCU.

The 2010 TCU team was recognized as national champions by the Congrove Computer Rankings. The Frogs finished No. 2 in the AP and Coaches Polls and 13-0, winning the Rose Bowl over Wisconsin.

Remember the college hay day of Andy Dalton? That was that season and Manziel could’ve been his replacement.

“At that point in time I wasn’t about football Shannon,” Manziel said. “I’m trying to go have a good time in college. I wanted to be like this mix of Entourage on HBO and like, Blue Mountain State and all these things I was watching at the time and what I was ingrained in. I’m a party boy, right? I just happened to be good at football a little bit at that time.”

As he’s told numerous times, Manziel’s focus on football wasn’t clear until prior to the 2012 season when he won the Heisman Trophy. He said he was able to “halt” off the field distractions for a time.

“You know, my grind and focus and determination of the game didn’t come in until I got into trouble before my Heisman year at A&M,” Manziel said. “June of 2012. It all kind of came to a halt when I got arrested. I got arrested for going out in College Station and drinking too much and blacking out and waking up in handcuffs.

“And when that instance happened, it was this meeting with coach Sumlin and my mom and my dad and it was like, you either figure this out today, over the next couple of weeks, or you’re ass is out of here.”
