TCU coach Sonny Dykes couldn’t be prouder of the way his team finished Saturday to claim a 43-40 victory against Oklahoma State in double overtime. Trailing by two touchdowns entering the fourth quarter, the Horned Frogs outscored the Cowboys 14-0 over the final 15 minutes of regulation to force OT.

Quarterback Max Duggan came up with several big plays down the stretch, including a 12-yard run in the second overtime that set up the game-winning touchdown from Kendre Miller. Speaking with ESPN in a postgame interview, Dykes attempted to describe his emotions after the comeback win.

“Really proud of the guys for hanging in there,” he said. “We never panicked, we just kind of kept playing and kept chipping away at the lead. They’re hard to stop, but the defense really played great in the second half and overtime. Great win for our guys and real proud of the players.”

Duggan finished the game 23-of-40 passing for 286 yards and two touchdowns. That includes the game-tying touchdown pass to tight end Jared Wiley with 1:57 to play. He also had a 25-yard touchdown to Quentin Johnston in the first overtime that gave TCU its first lead of the entire game.

Duggan also added 57 yards rushing and a touchdown in addition to his passing stats.

“He’s a warrior,” Dykes said of the QB. “Absolute warrior. It’s just remarkable what he’s done and what he does for our program every day. Just couldn’t be more proud of him.”

The Horned Frogs defense was also huge down the stretch, forcing a fourth quarter interception from Spencer Sanders. They also kept the OSU offense from achieving a first down in the second overtime, forcing kicker Tanner Brown to make a 52-yard field goal.

The victory improves TCU to 6-0 (3-0 Big 12) on the season, making the Horned Frogs the only undefeated team left in the conference. Considering they were picked to finish seventh in the preseason media poll, this is a major accomplishment in Dykes first season and hints at an even brighter future.

“It’s awesome,” Dykes said. “This is a great place to be. I’m just so blessed to be here right now with these players and people. It’s just an unbelievable place.”

Sonny Dykes and the Horned Frogs will hope to continue riding the momentum of their victory against Oklahoma State when they face No. 17 Kansas State (5-1, 3-0) at 7 p.m. CT.
