Sonny Dykes and the TCU Horned Frogs have hired former Louisville recruiting coordinator Eron Hodges, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. TCU lost its most recent recruiting coordinator Rashaad Samples to the NFL last month as he took the running backs job with the L.A. Rams.

Hodges heads to Fort Worth from Louisville, where he was recruiting coordinator and a defensive analyst for one season. He’s been in the college coaching ranks since 2013 after competing himself at the NJCAA level in football and track and field at College of DuPage.

TCU hires Eron Hodges after Samples departure

Prior to his stint with the Cardinals, Eron Hodges served six months as recruiting coordinator for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Before that, he spent two years as director of player personnel with the Purdue Boilermakers.

In his first year at Purdue, Hodges helped the Boilermakers sign the highest-rated recruiting class in over a decade. Purdue’s 2019 class ranked 25th nationally.

Hodges came to the Boilermakers after serving as Ohio State’s assistant director of player personnel. He joined the Buckeyes’ recruiting staff as an analyst in 2015 after previously serving as a strength & conditioning coach.

Hodges spent the 2013 and 2014 seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Kent State, where he worked with the linebackers. He began his career in collegiate athletics as an Olympic sports strength & conditioning coach at Notre Dame in 2012 and subsequently was linebackers coach at Valparaiso (2012) and Saint Joseph’s (2015).

Coming out of high school, Hodges served four years in the U.S. Navy. After the Navy, he earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Illinois State in 2012. He received a master’s degree in sports management from Kent State in 2015.

Eron Hodges will also serve as a defensive analyst working with cornerbacks on Sonny Dykes’ staff. It’s Dykes’ first year at TCU after leaving SMU to take the job as Gary Patterson’s successor in December.
