The TCU Horned Frogs have just advanced to the College Football Playoffs championship game on Jan. 9 after a wild victory over the Michigan Wolverines. After the game, the crew at ESPN caught up with TCU head coach Sonny Dykes to get his thoughts on the game and on the performance of his star quarterback Max Duggan.

“Well, it just shows what these guys are all about. They never give up, played hard for 60 minutes. They’re just great, great kids. (I’m) really proud of them. They believed in each other, and they believed in us and couldn’t be more proud. We’re excited to go play now,” said Dykes.

“He’s tough; nothing bothers him. He’s got that confidence and belief in himself and his teammates and couldn’t be more proud of what these guys have accomplished. Let’s go play our tail off next week and go win one.”

The Horned Frogs played impressive on the defensive side of the ball in their 51-45 victory. TCU forced three turnovers, including two pick-sixes in the game. On top of that, TCU did a solid job for most of the game, limiting Michigan’s vaunted running game. Although the game did get off the rails late, and the Wolverines were able to try and keep pace with the Horned Frogs, TCU did enough work early to take the lead and never relinquish it.

“They’ve done it all year. These guys did an incredible job stopping the run. I think all week, we heard about Big Ten football and how they’re going to line up and run over us. And defensively, they made some plays. But we did a great job stopping with the run and forced them to do some things they probably weren’t comfortable doing. So, couldn’t be more proud of the defense. I thought they played incredibly hard, just like we expected them to.”

“I’m anxious to go watch it right now; see who we’re gonna get to play. But, like I said, just can’t say nothing about these guys and how thankful we are to be here.”

Up next, TCU will face the winner of the Peach Bowl between the Georgia Bulldogs and Ohio State Buckeyes. Whoever they face in the College Football Playoffs National Championship better be prepared for a fight. The horned frogs are out to prove that they are here to stay and that their run to the national championship it’s not a Cinderella story but one of destiny.
