Former Central Michigan safety Trey Jones has committed to Texas A&M, via the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Jones spent five seasons at Central Michigan, tallying 44 total appearances. In 11 games this season, Jones amassed 66 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, three passes defended, a forced fumble and an interception.

The 2022 campaign was Jones’ best. He finished the season with 85 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, five passes defended and two interceptions. For his efforts, he was named Fourth Team All-MAC honoree by Phil Steele Magazine.

Jones boasts the versatile ability to cover just as well as he can stuff the opponent’s ground game. He was also heavily recruited by Florida. Jones is Mike Elko’s fifth pledge from the portal. He will join Kansas State transfer Will Lee as a new addition to next year’s defensive back room.

Jones played high school football at Wetumpka (AL), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 2,764 overall recruit in the 2019 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
