Four-star linebacker Tyanthony Smith of Jasper (TX) announced his commitment to Texas A&M Friday evening.

The 6-foot-2, 210 pounder chose the Aggies over USC and Texas.

Smith on why he chose Texas A&M

“Coach Durkin and I have had that close relationship and he’s recruited me like no other. I trust A&M and what they’re doing with their program. I want to be a part of that. I told coach Durkin I silently committed to USC and he looked me in the eyes and said ‘I don’t care we’re still going to recruit you’. Once he said that I knew that it was time.”

Relationship with coaching staff + their plan for him

“I am close with coach Durkin and he told me that I’m going to play both will and mike.”

What it means to stay home to Smith and family

“It means a lot! It’s more convenient for them and also we’re big on playing for where we come from.”

The Lone Star State linebacker joins coach Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies’ top 15 class in the 2024 team rankings. He is accompanied by four-star wide receiver Drelon Miller, four-star safety Jordan Pride, and others.

Smith ranks as the No. 347 player in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also tabs in as the No. 33 linebacker and the No. 58 player in the state of Texas.

On3 ranks him higher than the industry, as he ranks as the No. 288 player nationally, the No. 25 linebacker, and the No. 55 player in Texas

He currently does not have an On3 NIL Valuation publicly listed. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
