A much-needed reset took place in College Station this week, with Texas A&M having a bye. Head coach Jimbo Fisher is halfway through the 2022 season, sitting with a 3-3 record. The Aggies will be hoping for a better second half, looking to get back on track after two consecutive losses.

Fisher says the bye week refreshed Texas A&M, clearing the mind of the grind that is a college football season. A “second season” may be ahead of them with a fresh six games on the schedule. The Aggies were able to “take a deep breath” and prepare for what should be five more tough SEC games.

“Anytime you come off an off week, you get to refresh your buttons,” Fisher said. “You get to fuel up, you get to get your mind cleared where it’s just not that continuous week in, week out. You take a deep breath and then you come back. Anytime that off week comes, it feels like it is the second season.

“It’s a new season to a point and how you go about it. But it’s always been that way, at least for me when you have off weeks during the season. Whether it’s eight weeks in, six weeks in, 10 weeks in.”

A tough loss against Mississippi State was followed by a heartbreaker in Tuscaloosa, giving Fisher a tough hill to climb for the rest of the year. South Carolina will be the first opponent up for the two programs’ annual SEC crossover matchup.

Especially going on the road, the bye week should have Texas A&M back in a good mindset. Shane Beamer’s team also enjoyed an open Saturday, as the two get ready for what could be a season-defining result.

Haynes King to play vs. South Carolina per Jimbo Fisher

Fisher confirmed in his Monday press conference that quarterback Haynes King will be available Saturday against South Carolina in Week 8. King suffered a foot injury in a Week 6 loss to Alabama, but had all of last week to recover as the Aggies were on bye.

“He’s going,” Fisher said when asked of his quarterback’s availability.

King started the first two games this season before being replaced by LSU transfer Max Johnson in Week 3. However, Jimbo Fisher went back to Haynes King against the Crimson Tide after Johnson suffered a hand injury in Week 5. King finished 25-of-46 passing for 253 yards, two touchdowns and an interception against Alabama.
