Jimbo Fisher believes a ranked Miami squad couldn’t have come to College Station at a better time.

Reeling after a loss to Appalachian State, the Aggies needed a victory badly. Speaking with Marty Smith during a segment on College GameDay, Fisher explained how the victory over the Hurricanes helped Texas A&M get back on track.

“We were blessed last week to have Miami as an opponent,” stated Fisher. “I mean, to have a high-quality opponent right after that situation. … You find out who you are. And we’re blessed again to have one that’s higher ranked again this week.

“Because the challenge this week — fear everything and run, face everything and rise. Which one you going to be?”

Still, championships are the expectation for Fisher at Texas A&M, and he believes the Aggies are on their way.

“We haven’t gotten there,” Fisher responded, when asked about his lofty goals for his Texas A&M tenure. “Two years ago, I think we were one of the top two teams in the country in 2020. I believe that wholeheartedly, and I still do today. But at the same time, we haven’t met those goals. We have to meet those goals, and I think we’re on track to get to those goals. Sometimes greatness takes longer, but I think we’re right in track.

“The expectations are high, we think the culture is very good, we’re just continuing to build it and grow it. It’s going to be a championship culture.”

On Saturday, Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M will look to keep the ship moving in the right direction against Arkansas. It’s a huge game for the Aggies, and the SEC as a whole for the remainder of the 2022 season.

Jimbo Fisher sends strong message to 12th man ahead of Arkansas game

Moreover, plenty of people bowed out when it came to the Texas A&M Aggies this season. Their loss to Appalachian State raised several questions about Jimbo Fisher’s team this year. Still, fans packed Kyle Field Saturday night and watched as the Aggies bounced back with a 17-9 win over then No. 13 Miami. After the week the program had, Fisher says it said a lot about A&M’s fanbase overall.

Fisher credited the A&M faithful for their continued support after a turbulent week during his press conference on Monday. He says the fans in College Station are more like family than anything else.

“They’re loyal to the school and what we do. They’re not fans. (The 12th man) is family. There’s a difference,” said Fisher. “Fans come and go. Family sticks with you no matter what goes on. In good times, bad times, anything else that happens. That’s what the 12th Man is about, that’s what our fans are about. That’s why I love them and I thank them for it. I thank them for their support, I really do.”

A&M listed the attendance during the win over the Hurricanes at a staggering 107,245. That made it the third biggest crowd in the stadium’s history and the most ever for a non-conference matchup. That kind of turnout speaks volumes about the dedication of the fanbase after their team was counted out the entire week heading into that primetime matchup.

The victory moved Jimbo Fisher’s record to 23-5 in front of The 12th Man. It continues to prove itself as one of the nation’s best atmospheres for a program that will need their devoted support. With a Top-10 Arkansas team coming to Kyle Field this weekend, they’ll need to do it once again as the Aggies open SEC play.
