Jimbo Fisher highlights what Demani Richardson brings to the Texas A&M secondary

Demani Richardson is a fixture of the Texas A&M secondary. The rising senior has played major snaps in all three previous seasons, finishing third on the team as a freshman in total tackles. So he’s a veteran in the truest sense for Jimbo Fisher. A leader on the field with three years of solid play backing him up.

Right now, Richardson is one of the only seniors in the projected lineup for the secondary. So the coaching staff will lean on him hard with responsibilities both on the field and off among his position group.

But Fisher knows he’s up for the task. And when asked about Richardson and his importance to the back end of the Aggies’ defense, the Texas A&M head coach pointed directly to the experience factor.

“Well, I mean the experience. The guy’s been there,” Fisher said, then continued with this tongue-twisting pair of sentences:

“I mean, he knows he knows, you know. Some guys that say they don’t know, they don’t know, he knows he knows.”

Did that make sense to anybody? Didn’t think so. Let’s move on to some clearer comments from the A&M head coach. Where he explained why experience at the position is so important.

“I mean, it’s just the opposite. The experience the time, the things he does and what it takes. And you know, how you deal with the ups and downs of camp, the success of days. Some days are more successful, some days aren’t as successful. And setting the temperament for how the guys react and play. I think that’s huge.

“I mean, it’s experience. It’s like in anything. You know, you have an experienced guy. Like if you have an experienced guy you work with and you haven’t been through something and you say, ‘Hey, you’re leaning on that, knowing that.’ And I think that knowledge for our players is valuable. Plus, his playing in general just gets better and better.”

Not only is Richardson leveling up as a player with the added years. He’s also growing smarter and more mature as one as well. Good news for Jimbo Fisher in the secondary.
