Texans first round pick and former Texas A&M offensive lineman Kenyon Green got a chance to speak with local media following his arrival in Houston.

The rookie offensive guard first expressed his gratitude to the franchise that selected him. One of the first things about the organization that struck him was the use of the phrase “we” in conversations. Green said when members of the front office talk to him, it’s always with a collective mindset. They ask him “what do we need to do to get better as a team?”

Green is happy to be apart of a franchise that embraces such a family atmosphere.”I had to change my mindframe. It’s a blessing to be a part of it.” But his new family is a football team with high expectations.

“It humbles you too,” Green continued. “You still have a lot of work to do. Now you gotta put your head down and work.”

He was picked 15th in the draft, a spot that represents a big investment from the drafting team. Expectations for a player of Green’s caliber will be immense. Even in year one.

Houston just traded away the guy Green was drafted to protect. Deshaun Watson was the franchise QB before facing serious legal accusations and also requesting a trade away from the Texans in the last year. Without him Houston went just 4-13 in 2021. So they’re completely rebuilding the roster and organization as a whole. They’ll expect Green to develop into a cornerstone member of the next era of Texans football.

Kenyon Green on how Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M prepared him for NFL

In his introductory press conference, Green credited his time with Texas A&M under Jimbo Fisher as a major contributing factor to his collegiate success.

“Seeing all the hard work [the Texas A&M coaching staff] put into me all those years, seeing the tears of joy [from the coaches], just the excitement — I was happy,” Green said about his coaches reactions to him getting drafted in the first round.

Fisher, obviously, had nothing but great things to say about his former All-American.

“All the intangibles you talk about — character, toughness, team, winning, sacrifice, play banged up, play bruised up — all of the things. Intelligence. And you combine that with great athletic ability, you have a great player. I mean this, I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t have an unbelievable career in pro football. I think the sky’s the limit for him.”
