Dacula (Ga.) Hebron Christian sophomore defensive end Kingjoseph Edwards went to College Station over the weekend expecting to watch a game of one of the top SEC programs in the country.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound edge left Texas A&M’s campus in awe of the atmosphere and with an offer. Edwards already holds offers from Arkansas, Florida State, Georgia Tech and UCF.

“They took all the recruits to the cafeteria after the game to watch the head coach talk about the game on TV,” Edwards said. “First, I spoke to the head coach. He told me he would love to have me in his program. Next, the defensive backs coach asked me my height, weight and position then gave me his contact info and told me to keep in touch. I was getting up to speak to my mentor and the defensive ends coach stopped me and offered me right there. I shook his hand and thanked him.”

Edwards was familiar with the Aggies’ program on and off the field before he boarded his flight on Saturday morning. The opportunity is one of a kind in the eyes of Edwards.

“My reaction was crazy,” Edwards said “On top of having a really good football program they, also have a good academic program. I was so excited it almost felt unreal.”

The 12th man, the name given to the Texas A&M student section, made an impression on Edwards. He feels the atmosphere is an underrated one.

“To be honest, I don’t think people know how exciting their games are. The crowd is yelling and cheering the entire time. I couldn’t believe how involved the crowd was and definitely wouldn’t mind playing in that arena. I would love to play there actually.”

What’s next for Kingjoseph Edwards?

Edwards will be in Athens on Oct. 2 when Georgia faces Arkansas. Edwards will be looking to take in some of Arkansas’ defense in person for the first time as well as how they stack up against the second-ranked Bulldogs.

I’m interested in seeing how competitive both teams are. Both teams are undefeated thus far,” Edwards said. “I am physical when I play defensive end. I’m quick to get in the back field. Looking forward to seeing how both teams work together defensively for the win.”
