Miami Hurricanes Coach Mario Cristobal talks Texas A&M

Texas A&M and Miami square off this weekend in one of the biggest matchups on the Week 2 college football slate.

Both teams are fresh off of impressive Week 1 performances versus Group of Five opponents, and Miami dominated the ground game in their game. So ahead of Saturday, Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher was asked about slowing down the Hurricanes’ rushing attack led by head coach Mario Cristobal.

“I like our defense and the way we’re playing, we got good guys up front, physicality,” Fisher said. “But listen, that’s a different opponent, Miami is a very good opponent and they know how to run it. Mario’s a line coach himself, he’s going to have those guys ready to run it.”

Miami rushed for 250 yards in their opener versus Miami of Ohio, using a rotation of running backs to get the job done. Henry Parish led the charge with nine rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown, and there’s no question that the Aggies will have to slow him down along with others if they want to leave Hard Rock Stadium with a win.

“And then you still gotta play the play action passes and the things that are always gonna come off those things. So it’s going to be a great challenge. I mean their back is very good, I’m telling you he does great, patient, strong jump cuts, leverage, power, runs, catches the ball. They have very good backs, the line is big, and I mean they’re really big up front, physical in how they do things,” Fisher explained.

Texas A&M allowed just 91 yards on the ground in their Week 1 game versus New Mexico and had 10 tackles for loss, showing their run-stopping abilities led by one of the biggest defensive lines in the entire country. But the Hurricanes will definitely present them with a greater challenge in the trenches this coming Saturday.

“It’s going to be a physical game inside right there so we’re gonna have to win those battles and we got to get them on the ground. Getting their backs on the ground, but they’re still gonna throw the football. Their quarterback’s a really good player so you can’t leave your guys on one-on-ones all day, so it’s gonna be a great challenge.

Last year’s matchup between the Aggies and Hurricanes was a low-scoring affair that Texas A&M won at home, and it will be intriguing to see how the action unfolds this time around as the two teams square off at 3:30 p.m. ET this Saturday in a game airing on ABC.
