The game time for Texas A&M‘s annual spring game on Saturday has been moved forward in anticipation of potential inclement weather arriving in the afternoon.

The game will now kick off at 1 p.m. ET, up an hour from its previously scheduled time slot.

Admission to the annual Maroon & White Game is free for fans, excluding the club and suite areas. Gates are scheduled to open one hour before kickoff.

Texas A&M will be debuting a completely new look in the spring game following the hire of new coach Mike Elko. Elko arrives by way of Duke, after having previously served a stint as the Texas A&M defensive coordinator under former coach Jimbo Fisher.

Elko is known for his defensive acumen, but the Aggies will debut new systems on both sides of the ball.

One of the key question marks is who will play quarterback for the Aggies, given how much of a revolving door the position has been the last couple years due to injuries.

Conner Weigman is the presumed starter, but developing depth behind him will be important.

“Yeah, I think and I said this and I want to make sure that it is said the right way: Just because you go into spring as the No. 1, that doesn’t really mean anything other than you’re No. 1 going into spring,” Elko said. “And so Conner had earned that right. We felt like from how he had performed, but like every kid in our program, competition is there and so Conner knows there’s a level of play that he needs to reach in order to continue to be No. 1. And be No. 1 when we play Notre Dame.”

Meanwhile, transfer Jaylen Henderson and redshirt freshman Marcell Reed are battling for the backup role this spring.

“Both of our other two guys bring something different to the table,” Elko said. “I think Jaylen Henderson is getting a little bit more and more comfortable functioning within the system. You know, he’s obviously extremely athletic. He does have the ability to throw the football well. I think just seeing the game and kind of getting the game to slow down for him a little bit so it can be a little bit more consistent. The way he delivers the football, I think, would help.

“Then you know, Marcel Reed is a young kid and you kind of saw it in the bowl game. I think he has really, really high potential and it’s very similar though. It’s can we get it to be out there every single play and a little less peaks and valleys? A little bit more consistent execution and operation is kind of what we need from him.”

Fans will get a chance to see all three play on Saturday, weather permitting.
