It’s a new era in College Station, as Mike Elko enters his first season as head coach at Texas A&M. Along with high expectations on the field comes high expectations on the recruiting trail.

After the Aggies finished just inside the top 20 of the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings last cycle, things are looking up for the Lone Star SEC program. Thanks to five commitments in April, A&M’s class now ranks No. 14 in the nation and No. 8 in the SEC, as of April 25.

Nine prospects currently make up the class, headlined by an elite signal-caller from the West Coast and a myriad of in-state athletes.

Texas A&M Class Breakdown

Just one of the Aggies’ commits is not from Texas, and it’s the highest-ranked prospect in the mix. Corona (Calif.) Centennial four-star quarterback Husan Longstreet is a centerpiece addition for Elko and Co.

Now a top-50 recruit and the No. 6 QB in the On3 Industry Ranking, Longstreet committed on April 14. He was one of two prospects to commit on the day, as he followed Denton (Texas) Ryan four-star interior offensive lineman Marcus Garcia.

Four offensive linemen are currently in the class. Cypress (Texas) Bridgeland four-star offensive tackle Jonte Newman and Prosper (Texas) three-star IOL Connor Carty also committed in April, while Spring (Texas) Legacy three-star IOL Joshua Moses was the first to commit, doing so last August.

Katy (Texas) Paetow four-star cornerback Deyjhon Pettaway is a top-175 recruit and top-25 corner in the cycle. DeSoto (Texas) four-star running back Deondrae Riden is a top-15 burner and provided a recruiting boost with his pledge in February. Forney (Texas) four-star linebacker Kelvion Riggins is the No. 300 recruit in the nation, while Cypress (Texas) Cy-Fair four-star defensive lineman Landon Rink kicked off the Aggies’ big April.

Top Offensive Commit: QB Husan Longstreet

As Longstreet’s commitment began to wind down, A&M emerged as a legitimate contender. The Aggies fended off a late push from Auburn to land the gunslinger, who’s now the No. 44 recruit in the cycle as well as the No. 2 player in the Golden State.

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power writes this of Longstreet as a prospect:

“New Texas A&M commit Husan Longstreet could have the strongest arm in the cycle. The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder from Corona (Calif.) Centennial has elite arm talent with the ability to generate palpable velocity on his throws. Longstreet is a twitchy passer and mover and excels in the RPO game and as a downfield passer. He sports the biggest hands of any top 2025 quarterback and it’s easy to see, given the force he’s able to generate on his throws.”

Top Defensive Commit: CB Deyjhon Pettaway

Committed since the end of January, Pettaway will be a key piece for the Aggies when National Signing Day rolls around. Standing 6-foot and weighing in at 180 pounds, Pettaway is the No. 168 overall recruit and No. 21 CB in the 2025 cycle.

Pettaway said this of A&M just before committing to kick off the year:

“They all have a plan for what’s next for Texas A&M and I believe it’s a really good one.”

“They poured so much knowledge into me and told me where could A&M be at and where it’s at right now. They know what needs to be done in order to proceed with those plans.”

“Coach Elko said I am by far and away the best DB they have watched in a while. He also told me that I can make an immediate impact in their program and I can lead A&M to something big in the future.”
