Texas A&M landed a significant win on the recruiting trail Wednesday when Katy (Texas) Paetow five-star defensive lineman David Hicks committed to the Aggies. Hicks’ decision elevated Texas A&M’s 2023 recruiting class to No. 15 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings. His pledge also lifted the Aggies’ group, which ranks No. 6 in the SEC, two spots from No. 17.

“With everything at Texas A&M, it’s always been the same,” Hicks told On3’s Sam Spiegelman. “Coach (Elijah) Robinson, Coach (Terry) Price — they have always been the same.”

Hicks is the No. 9 overall prospect and No. 1 defensive lineman in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the the No. 1 player in Texas.

Hicks continues momentum for Texas A&M’s 2023 class

At one point over the summer, Texas A&M ranked outside the top 50 of the rankings. Now, the Aggies are in the top 15 thanks to pledges from six top-100 recruits.

Hicks’ commitment is significant since he is the Aggies’ second five-star pledge alongside Denton (Texas) Ryan linebacker Anthony Hill. The 6-foot-4, 270 pound prospect made 10 trips to College Station during his recruitment.

A Lone Star State native, Hicks is Texas A&M’s third commitment of the month after La Grange (Texas) four-star cornerback Bravion Rogers and Orlando (Fla.) Westlake four-star interior offensive lineman T.J. Shanahan. Rogers, a top-50 prospect, decommitted from the Aggies over the summer before pledging back to head coach Jimbo Fisher and his staff on Sept. 6.

Don Bosco Prep four-star interior offensive lineman Chase Bisontis, Dallas South Oak Cliff four-star cornerback Jayvon Thomas and Shiner (Texas) four-star safety Dalton Brooks.

Other four-stars in the Aggies’ group include Spring Branch (Texas) Smithson Valley interior offensive lineman Colton Thomasson and Katy (Texas) Paetow linebacker Daymion Sanford. Texas A&M also has commitments from Humble (Texas) Atascocita three-star defensive lineman Samu Taumanupepe, Philadelphia (Penn.)
