Former LSU quarterback Max Johnson got his chance to take over the Texas A&M offense under less-than-desirable circumstances against Auburn, but he’s making the most of it using a family connection.

Johnson drove Texas A&M down the field early in the second half and punched in the game’s first touchdown after utilizing his brother Jake Johnson a couple times in the drive.

Max delivered the scoring strike to Jake with a simple throw to the left flats from the 22-yard line on a wheel route. Jake dove through contact at the goal line to convert, putting Texas A&M up 13-3 in the game.

It was Jake’s first career touchdown with the Aggies. You can check it out below.

Jake had recorded two catches for 32 yards and a touchdown on the drive, immediately getting into the action after his brother Max took over at quarterback.

Though the two will certainly celebrate the family hookup, both will be wondering about the status of starting quarterback Conner Weigman.

Weigman left the game against Auburn in the second quarter with an apparent ankle injury, and did not return after halftime. That allowed Max Johnson getting loose in his stead and take over the offense to start the second half.

Johnson is a veteran with plenty of experience after transferring into the program from LSU. He has thrown for 4,504 career yards with 40 touchdowns and just seven interceptions.

But he had played sparingly for the Aggies through the first three weeks. Weigman, meanwhile, had been excellent.

He was 8-of-14 passing for 70 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions in the game before his injury, while he had thrown for 1,805 yards and 16 touchdowns with only two interceptions in his career prior to Saturday.

“Conner Weigman has gone into the locker room to have further evaluation on his left ankle,” ESPN’s Kris Budden said. “They took him off in the injury tent. Jimbo Fisher went in to check on him. I watched him and heard him coming off the field, he was shouting in pain, barely able to put any pressure on that left lower leg.”
