On300 safety Peyton Morgan‘s mind has been made up for some time.

When push came to shove in the four-star defensive back’s recruitment, however, it’s unsurprising that the strongest relationships he formed turned out to be pillars of his decisions.

Morgan, the No. 8-rated safety in the On300 for the 2024 recruiting cycle out of Pflugerville (Texas) Weiss High School in Central Texas, committed to Texas Tech over the likes of Nebraska and Arizona.

James Blanchard, Coach (Ryan) Conry, Coach (Marcel) Yates, Coach (Brian) Nance and Coach (Joey) McGuire, and many more, were amazing building relationships with me,” Morgan told On3 on his decision to pledge to the Red Raiders after his trio of June official visits.

“Coach McGuire was a high school who coached in Texas and it shows,” he continued on. “He’s the head coach and he shows he cares and that he’ll always keep in touch with you forever and ever. It’s just really special and I know he’s gonna be a special coach and Texas Tech is gonna go far, for sure, in college.”

“Tech is coming,” Morgan asserted.

The Red Raiders were the first team to extend an offer in the direction on Morgan, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound safety, who also plays on the offensive side of the ball for Weiss High School. Morgan has visited Lubbock and remained in regular communication with the Texas Tech staff ever since.

Morgan was on hand for the Red Raider’s major in-state recruiting junior day in April and went out West for his first official visit in June.

“My best relationship is Texas Tech for sure,” Morgan said. “They were my first offer as a sophomore and we’ve been in touch ever since, which is crazy. They’re the real deal.”

“They’re very energetic, they care and they show that love,” he added. “When you get there, it’s even better. On the phone, it’s amazing, but when you see them in person it’s 10 times better.”

Morgan, who checks in as the No. 108 overall player in the country in the On300 for this cycle, put a grand emphasis on these summer official visits and which coaches checked the boxes on and away from the football field.

“I’m seeing which coaches keep in touch with me; that’s what I care about the most,” he said. “I want a coach who has a good relationship with me. I want to play for a coach who wants me and shows that he wants me.”
