It’s nothing out of the normal to see abnormally strong players on the offensive and defensive line. Los Angeles Rams All-Pro Aaron Donald reportedly bench presses 500 pounds. He is also a 30-year-old man with access to some of the best trainers and facilities in the world.

Seeing a high prospect throwing around that kind of obscene weight is a different story. But that’s exactly what Texas Tech 2022 signee Seth Martin did on Saturday.

The 6-foot-3, 285-pounder one-rep squatted 700 pounds — or roughly 2 1/2 versions of himself — at a workout. Don’t believe me? Watch for yourself. And we’re not talking about the barely-bend-your-knees squat. He would made Olympic lifters proud with this one. Oh, and he also deadlifted 660 pounds last month.

Martin was one of the Red Raiders’ more unheralded signees, checking in as the No. 1044 player in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He was at one time committed to TCU, but opted to decommit after head coach Gary Patterson’s firing. New Red Raiders head coach Joey McGuire saw the same thing Patterson and Co. did, and they ultimately landed him over a handful of other programs.

Whether his brute strength translates to production on the field will be determined, but it never hurts to find an offensive lineman who can squat 250 percent of his body weight.
