Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove 2025 four-star quarterback EJ Colson felt comfortable with UCF. There was no need to keep dragging things out. The No. 198 overall prospect in the 2025 On3 rankings has committed to UCF.

He’s known for a while the UCF was a special place. UCF checked a lot of boxes immediately. Colson wanted to be sure. He looked in multiple directions.

UCF still made the most sense for the four-star signal caller. Every time he got on campus, it felt like home.

“God led me here,” Colson told On3. “I kept praying on it, and he showed me this was the way…The feeling I got every time I stepped on campus (won me over). It was really genuine love and support.”

Colson felt like a priority in Orlando.

“Coach (Darin) Hinshaw made it clear every time we spoke and when I met with coach (Gus) Malzahn, He looked at me and said that I was the future of this program,” Colson said. “Hearing someone of his caliber say that was amazing.”

Colson camped at UCF in June. He brought his family with him to Orlando. That weekend he and his family fell in love with UCF. From then on it was a formality.

“Once my family fell in love with it like I did (I knew),” Colson said. “I took my grandparents and parents with me when I camped in June and the way everything was laid out with my visit. The way coach Hinshaw broke down the game was amazing to see. I feel like he’s the best in college football right now. So why not get coached by the best?”

EJ Colson ready to help UCF continue hot streak and build program

UCF has a quarterback committed in the class of 2024 in Riley Trujillo. Colson is ready to take on his role as the lead recruiter in the class of 2025.

UCF has already landed a commitment from four-star running back Taevion Swint in the class of 2025. Colson is the second commit to jump into the 2025 class.

He’s about building relationships over the next year.

“I want to make great relationships with some guys,” Colson said. “I’m just looking for guys who’ll work their butts off to reach the goal of BIG12 championships and National Championships.”

Colson has high hopes for UCF in the coming years.

“I think we can accomplish everything we set our minds towards,” Colson said. “We want to make a statement not only in the BIG12 but also in the country. We want to be the best team in the country. And we are going to work hard every single day with the mindset of being champions.”
