Lehi (Utah) Kahuku three-star defensive lineman Stanley Raass flipped his commitment from BYU to Utah on Wednesday afternoon. He was previously committed to the Cougars since March 7.

Raass is the No. 1,675 overall prospect and No. 173 defensive lineman in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 23 player in Utah.

On3 rates Raass higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Even though he is not ranked in the 2023 On300, Raass is the No. 165 defensive lineman and No. 15 player in Utah.

“First and foremost, I’d like to thank my Heavenly Father for the endless blessings throughout the recruiting process and a special thanks for directing my path to this opportunity for my family and I,” Raass wrote in a statement on Instagram. “Thank you to my Raass family in Utah for cheering me on where ever I go, and my Fonoimoana and Logan family in Hawaii for helping make my senior year at Kahuku possible.

“With that being said, I’d like to announce I will be de-committing from BYU and committing to the University of Utah. Thank you to Coach Powell, Coach Elliss, and Coach Whittingham for giving me a chance to do something great in their program further in the future.”

In addition to BYU and Utah, Raass received two Power Five offers. They were from Oregon State and Washington State, two Pac-12 programs that he will face in the future with the Utes.

What Raass’ commitment means for Utah’s 2023 class

The 6-foot-1, 230-pound prospect is now the 19th member of the Utes’ 2023 recruiting class. Utah’s group is currently No. 42 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 5 in the Pac-12.

Middleburg (Fla.) three-star running back Michael Mitchell is the highest-ranked prospect in the Utes’ class. Utah also has commitments from three other top-500 prospects in its 16-person class, including Corona (Calif.) Centennial three-star linebacker Owen Chambliss, Sacramento (Calif.) Inderkum three-star wide receiver Carlos Wilson and New Caney (Texas) three-star cornerback CJ Blocker.
