Turmoil struck the Michigan State football program this season, resulting in the firing of head coach Mel Tucker. Since then, the Spartans’ 2024 recruiting class has taken quite the hit.

Multiple blue-chip prospects have decommitted from MSU, including Mount Pleasant (Mich.) four-star interior offensive lineman Andrew Dennis, who announced his decision on Oct. 16.

“As everyone knows, the fear of the unknown is scary. When you are a recruit and trying to plan your future, it is even more so. After patiently monitoring the situation and many conversations with my parents and everyone who has supported me through this process, at this time I have decided to decommit from MSU and reopen my recruitment,” Dennis wrote.

…I will still be considering MSU as one of my choices though. I would like to thank the entire MSU coaching staff and support staff for the opportunity to be a Spartan. I would especially like to thank Coach Kap and Coach Lail for investing so much time into my recruiting process and believing in me as a football player and a person. I will be forever grateful to both of you! I would also like to thank the Spartan fans and community for all the love and support. Much love to you Spartan Nation.”

On Thursday, Dennis announced that he has received an offer from Kyle Whittingham and the Utah Utes. They join Clemson as teams to offer the lineman following his decommitment.

Utah’s 2024 recruiting class currently features just 11 commits and ranks No. 47 in the nation, per the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking. Dennis would be the Utes’ second highest-ranked pledge if he were to head to Salt Lake City.

On3’s Sam Spiegelman reported earlier this month that the buzz for Dennis has surrounded Clemson, Illinois and Penn State, while the likes of Purdue and Nebraska are also trying to enter the fold.

The 6-foot-4, 285-pounder is the No. 329 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 24 IOL and No. 7 player in Michigan.

Dennis does not currently have an On3 NIL Valuation. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
