Vanderbilt cornerback BJ Anderson is accused of biting two bouncers at a bar in Nashville, according to a report from Scoop: Nashville. Anderson, who just wrapped up his sixth year with the Commodores, was arrested in the early morning hours on Friday.

Anderson was at Barstool Nashville when officers got to the scene, according to the report. At the time, he was being held to the ground by security and visibly intoxicated. He was initially denied entry after trying to go inside the bar with a Gatorade bottle that had alcohol in it and because he was already intoxicated.

However, Anderson left the line and re-entered after throwing out the bottle. That’s when he tried to force his way into the bar and a guard had to wrap his arms around him. That’s when Anderson bit both of the guards, the report said. Officers noticed the bite marks.

Anderson was taken to the Metro Nashville Jail and is facing a public intoxication charge and two counts of assault.

In six years with Vanderbilt, BJ Anderson totaled 76 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack. His best season came in 2022 when he had 32 tackles and the lone sack of his career.

The Commodores had a rough year in 2023, the third under head coach Clark Lea. They finished with a 2-10 record for the second time in three seasons, but Lea made some changes right away.

Vanderbilt decided to move on from offensive coordinator Joey Lynch late last month. The Commodores ranked last in the SEC in total offense and 13th in scoring offense, averaging just 22.8 points per game — one point per contest better than Mississippi State.

“We had a season where our results and performance fell short of our expectations,” Lea said. “When that is the case, change is necessary. My background as a defensive coordinator will allow me to best serve our team by taking on that responsibility.”

“I’d like to thank Joey for his three years of dedication to our program. I wish him all the best in the future.”

In addition, Lea demoted defensive coordinator Nick Howell to defensive backs coach and moving Dan Jackson to an off-field role from that same position.

The year ended with a loss to Tennessee — a 48-24 defeat. Heading into that game, Lea noted how tough the year has been and why he wanted to see it wrap up on at least a bit of a higher note.
