Vanderbilt head coach Jerry Stackhouse was clearly unhappy with a technical foul against Liam Robbins Wednesday night against VCU. He let the officials know — and was escorted off the court by security as a result.

The foul occurred with 7:59 to play in the second half of Wednesday’s matchup in Richmond when Robbins appeared to tap his head after a monster dunk. The referees called a technical foul on him, and Stackhouse berated the officials during the commercial break and media timeout. It resulted in two technical fouls against him and his subsequent ejection.

At the time, VCU had a 54-51 lead over Vanderbilt, which entered the game with a 3-3 record to start the year. The Commodores are coming off a 67-59 win over Fresno State last week.

Vanderbilt signed Jerry Stackhouse to a contract extension prior to the season

Over the offseason, Vanderbilt announced it had signed Stackhouse to a contract extension. The details have not been made public at the time of publishing, but the two sides opted to re-up their commitment entering his fourth year on the job.

In the press release, a list of Jerry Stackhouse’s accomplishments as both a player and coach were listed alongside a pair of statements which highlighted the reason for the contract extension.

“The positive trajectory of our men’s basketball program under Coach Stackhouse is clear,” said athletic director Candice Lee. “Committing to and investing in him as the leader is an important part of building the championship caliber program that we all want and expect here at Vanderbilt. I value the contributions Jerry and his program have made to our community and campus, and I am excited about our future.”

Stackhouse also released a lengthy statement about his excitement to continue serving as the Vanderbilt basketball coach moving forward.
