Class of 2023 three-star center Blake Buchanan has committed to Virginia, he told On3.

The 6-foot-10, 215-pound center out of Coeur d’Alene (Idaho) Lake City High ultimately chose the Cavaliers over Gonzaga. He also received scholarship offers from Iowa, Washington State, Pepperdine, Idaho, and others.

Buchanan ranks as the No. 154 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3’s evaluators are much higher on the big man, ranking him 115th nationally in the class.

He averaged 8.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game, shooting 48.6-percent from the field at the NBPA Top 100 camp.

Buchanan talks about commitment to Virginia

“The reason I picked Virginia was because of the coaching staff,” Buchanan said to On3. “I wanted to play in a tough conference (ACC), and the opportunities/resources on and off the court are going to be great.”

Scouting Summary

Blake Buchanan has excellent size, with long arms and broad shoulders. He has a projectable frame that he should continue to fill out as he gets into a college strength and conditioning program. At 6-foot-10, Buchanan moves very fluidly with some pop at the basket. He is a good team defender, understands rotations, and is a solid shot blocker. We did not see him attempt a three, but his free throw stroke is solid. He is a late-bloomer and will continue to put on weight. Buchanan is a good rebounder, not afraid of contact, and he does a solid job altering shots at the rim. His best basketball should be in front of him. – On3’s Jamie Shaw, National Recruiting Analyst
